Dimensions: 5'0" x 9'2" (152 cm x 279 cm).
Circa: 1910.
This antique Beshir rug, circa 1910, is a hand-knotted Central Asian textile distinguished by a richly layered all-over lattice of geometric floral rosettes, angular palmettes, and jewel-like motifs. Its saturated madder red field, deep indigo ground accents, ivory details, and repeating octagonal border create exceptional graphic rhythm and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or office.
Vibrant warm tones of madder red, indigo, ivory, coral, teal, rust, charcoal, and sage, with a madder red field.
Beshir rugs are produced by Uzbek and Turkmen weavers along the Amu Darya River in Central Asia. Unlike the more austere red-ground Turkmen work, Beshir rugs are notable for their relative complexity and variety — incorporating blue and gold grounds, lattice field patterns, pomegranate motifs, and Chinese-influenced cloud bands that reflect the cultural crossroads of the Silk Road.
They are woven on a wool foundation with a medium pile and tend toward a more curvilinear drawing than other Turkmen work. Antique Beshir pieces are prized by collectors for their unusual color combinations and their distinctive fusion of Central Asian and Persian design vocabulary.
