Dimensions: 5'3" x 8'6" (160 cm x 259 cm).
Circa: 1910.
This antique Caucasian rug, circa 1910, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind weaving distinguished by a deep teal field, a dramatic rust-red stepped lattice, and a chain of geometric ivory and taupe medallion forms. Its crisply articulated tribal motifs and multiple guard borders showcase the graphic precision and enduring character prized in early Caucasian wool-pile rugs. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or office.
Muted cool tones of teal, rust, ivory, taupe, terracotta, ochre, sage, and charcoal, with a teal field.
Caucasian rugs have a stronger palette with geometric designs. Longer piled rugs are woven in the highlands and the shorter piled finer rugs in the lowlands. The Caucasus is the area bordered by the Black Sea on the left and the Caspian Sea to the right. The Caucasus mountains border the region from the northwest diagonally to the southwest. Rugs are usually woven on an all wool foundation or with wool warps and cotton wefts, occasionally mixed.
