Circa: 1940.
This handmade, one-of-a-kind vintage Anatolian rug from circa 1940 showcases a beautifully faded tribal design in soft sky blue and ivory, with a stylized central field framed by bold geometric borders. Its hand-knotted character and gently timeworn palette give it an airy, collector-friendly presence that blends Anatolian village craftsmanship with refined decorative versatility. An ideal accent for a hallway, bedroom, or entryway.
Faded cool tones of ivory, sky blue, beige, cream, and pale blue, with a ivory field.
Anatolian is a broad regional term covering rugs woven across the Anatolian plateau of Turkey, encompassing production from dozens of weaving centers and village traditions from the medieval period to the present. The earliest surviving Anatolian rugs, fragments of which date to the thirteenth century, already display the bold geometric vocabulary — stepped medallions, hooked borders, stylized animal forms — that would characterize the tradition for centuries.
Antique Anatolian rugs are particularly sought for their use of natural dyes, their vibrant warm palettes, and the improvisational energy of their design. Whether finely woven urban pieces or rustic village work, they share a directness and strength of color that makes them compelling in almost any setting.
