The pale field is animated by crisp cobalt and light blue drawing with soft gold accents, giving the composition an airy, decorative presence that balances traditional craftsmanship with an elegant, collectible look. Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
