This vintage Afshar runner, circa 1950, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal rug with a striking sequence of geometric medallions set against a warm terracotta field. Its crisp border work, ivory-ground motifs, and nuanced accents in sky blue, olive, and charcoal showcase the bold graphic character and hand-knotted craftsmanship prized in Persian village weaving. A distinctive decorative accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted warm tones of terra cotta, ivory, sky blue, olive, rust, charcoal, camel, and sage, with a terra cotta field.
Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
