This vintage Afshar runner, circa 1950, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal rug with a striking sequence of geometric medallions set against a warm terracotta field. Its crisp border work, ivory-ground motifs, and nuanced accents in sky blue, olive, and charcoal showcase the bold graphic character and hand-knotted craftsmanship prized in Persian village weaving. Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran.
