This antique Persian Bidjar rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind carpet distinguished by its powerful central medallion, richly detailed floral field, and deep navy border framing a saturated rust-red ground. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through intricate drawing, crisp symmetry, and a finely articulated palette of ivory, sky blue, and soft pink accents that give the composition exceptional depth and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, office, or dining room.
Vibrant warm tones of rust, navy, ivory, sky blue, rose, camel, sage, and charcoal, with a rust field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
