Dimensions: 3'6" x 10'9" (107 cm x 328 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique circa 1920 Malayer runner is a hand-knotted Persian rug with a finely drawn all-over lattice of small floral and geometric motifs across a dark field. Its richly detailed ivory, faded rose, camel, and charcoal palette is framed by a bold repeating rosette border, while visible age-softened wear gives the wool pile an authentic collector character. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded neutral tones of charcoal, ivory, camel, dusty rose, taupe, blue gray, mahogany, and sage, with a charcoal field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
