This antique Afshar rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a finely drawn all-over field and richly layered border system. Its soft camel-beige ground is animated by repeating geometric floral motifs in rust, ivory, and charcoal, giving the piece a beautifully aged palette and crisp hand-knotted character. The balanced square format and nuanced patterning make it an ideal accent for a living room, bedroom, or office.

Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
