Dimensions: 7'7" x 14'6" (231 cm x 442 cm).
This vintage Bakhshayesh rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its richly patterned all-over field and bold geometric border. The dark navy ground is enlivened with finely drawn repeating boteh motifs in rust, ivory, and soft blue, showcasing the crisp articulation and decorative depth collectors prize in village weaving. Its elongated 7' x 14' format makes it an ideal statement piece for a hallway, dining room, or living room.
Muted warm tones of navy, rust, red, ivory, blue, and camel, with a navy field.
Bakhshayesh rugs are woven in a village of the same name in the Heriz region of northwest Iran, and are closely related to Serapi carpets in their large-scale geometric compositions and use of vegetable dyes. They are among the most beautiful and sought-after of all antique Persian carpets, produced from the mid-nineteenth century onward in relatively small quantities.
Distinguished by their spacious, boldly drawn medallion designs, soft camel and ivory grounds, and a rich palette of madder reds, indigos, and earthy golds, Bakhshayesh rugs combine tribal directness with an almost architectural grandeur. Their large format makes them particularly powerful in generous rooms, where their colors and compositions hold their own against high ceilings and substantial furniture.
