This antique Karabagh rug, circa 1910, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Caucasian piece distinguished by its softly faded palette and elegant floral composition. The hand-knotted design features a taupe field with pastel rose, pale blue, ivory, and olive motifs framed by a bold geometric border, giving it a refined balance of delicacy and structure. Its decorative scale and luminous age-softened character make it an ideal accent for a bedroom, office, or entryway.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, olive, ivory, brown, pale blue, rose, and cream, with a taupe field.
Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
