Dimensions: 3'5" x 15'0" (104 cm x 457 cm).
Circa: 1910.
This antique circa 1910 Northwest Persian runner is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind weaving with a richly articulated terracotta field, alternating floral medallion panels, and finely drawn geometric ornament. Its wool pile displays a collector-worthy interplay of ivory, slate blue, camel, and charcoal within multiple narrow guard borders. An ideal foundation for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted warm tones of terracotta, ivory, charcoal, slate blue, camel, rust, sage, and rose, with a terracotta field.
Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
