Dimensions: 5'7" x 9'10" (170 cm x 300 cm).
Circa: 1940.
This handmade, one-of-a-kind antique Belouch rug from circa 1940 showcases a striking tribal design with vertically arranged tree-like motifs framed by a bold geometric border. Its faded rust field, softened blue accents, and finely drawn linear patterning give the piece a beautifully timeworn character and strong collector appeal. A distinctive accent for a hallway, living room, or office.
Faded warm tones of rust, brown, slate, taupe, charcoal, and terra cotta, with a rust field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
