This antique Shiraz rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian tribal carpet distinguished by its striking lattice of hooked hexagonal medallions and richly drawn geometric motifs. Its softly faded palette of rust, rose, ivory, and brown gives the hand-knotted design a warm, timeworn character, while the layered border system and nuanced surface lend depth and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded warm tones of rose, rust, terra cotta, ivory, taupe, brown, and charcoal, with a rose field.
Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs. One of the most well known tribes in the area are the Qashqai.
