Dimensions: 5'4" x 9'6" (163 cm x 290 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Afghan rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a softly faded all-over gul pattern that speaks to its age and authenticity. Its pale camel field, washed with ivory and light blue accents, creates an airy, understated palette while the geometric drawing and hand-knotted character give it strong collector appeal. A refined decorative layer for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of camel, ivory, taupe, light blue, and beige, with a camel field.
Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
