Dimensions: 9'3" x 12'0" (282 cm x 366 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique circa 1930 Khorassan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet with a finely drawn all-over floral lattice in soft turquoise, ivory, and warm sand tones. Its intricate repeating palmettes, delicate vinework, and layered floral borders showcase the refined decorative language associated with Khorassan weaving. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of turquoise, ivory, sand, taupe, sage, camel, rust, and charcoal, with a turquoise field.
Khorasan (also Khorassan) is a vast region of northeastern Iran encompassing a number of important weaving centers, most notably Meshed (now Mashhad), the region's capital. Khorasan rugs share certain characteristics — double-wefted cotton foundations, asymmetric knotting, and elaborate curvilinear floral designs — while varying considerably in quality and palette from workshop to workshop.
The finest antique Khorasan carpets rival the great city workshops of central Persia in their technical achievement. Their palette tends toward rich reds, deep blues, and ivory, with medallion and all-over floral formats predominating. They are substantial, formal rugs suited to large rooms and traditional interiors.
