Dimensions: 6'3" x 9'6" (191 cm x 290 cm).
Circa: 1940.
This antique circa 1940 Mir rug from Persia is hand-knotted and one-of-a-kind, distinguished by its finely drawn all-over boteh field and layered geometric floral borders. Its softly aged ivory, taupe, and sand palette gives the wool pile a refined, understated presence while showcasing the precision of traditional Mir weaving. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or dining area.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, sand, beige, camel, soft brown, and charcoal, with a taupe field.
Mir rugs are woven in the Saraband district of west-central Iran, and their name is virtually synonymous with the "mir" pattern — a repeating field of small, curved boteh (teardrop or paisley) motifs arranged in offset diagonal rows on a rich red ground. This endlessly adaptable all-over design, which may derive from a stylized leaf or flame form, became one of the most widely imitated in the history of rug weaving.
Antique Mir-Saraband rugs are finely woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot. Their warm palette, precise drawing, and quietly rhythmic pattern make them enduringly versatile in traditional and transitional interiors.
