This antique Farahan Sarouk rug, circa 1900, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its grand scale and masterfully drawn medallion composition. The terracotta field and deep navy border are enriched with intricate floral and vinery motifs, creating a richly layered, collector-worthy surface with exceptional decorative presence. A striking hand-knotted statement piece for a living room, dining room, or office.
Muted warm tones of terra cotta, navy, ivory, beige, rust, camel, slate, and light blue, with a terra cotta field.
Far Sarouk rugs (sometimes listed as "Farahan Sarouk") represent the earliest phase of Sarouk production, woven in the villages of the Arak region in the late nineteenth and very early twentieth century before the style shifted toward the heavier American Sarouk format. These early pieces retain the refined drawing and restrained palette of the Farahan tradition — typically featuring an all-over floral spray design or a central medallion on a rich red or ivory ground.
They are more delicate and less commercial than later Sarouks, and are prized by collectors for their elegance and historical importance.
