This antique Farahan Sarouk rug, circa 1890, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its grand scale, richly drawn floral arabesques, and commanding central medallion. The terracotta-red field is layered with deep navy, ivory, and soft blue detailing, framed by an elegant border that showcases the refined symmetry and intricate hand-knotted craftsmanship collectors prize. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining room, or office.
Muted warm tones of rust, navy, ivory, sky blue, rose, terra cotta, slate, and camel, with a rust field.
Far Sarouk rugs (sometimes listed as "Farahan Sarouk") represent the earliest phase of Sarouk production, woven in the villages of the Arak region in the late nineteenth and very early twentieth century before the style shifted toward the heavier American Sarouk format. These early pieces retain the refined drawing and restrained palette of the Farahan tradition — typically featuring an all-over floral spray design or a central medallion on a rich red or ivory ground.
They are more delicate and less commercial than later Sarouks, and are prized by collectors for their elegance and historical importance.
