Antique Bidjar Runner Rug (3' x 15')
Dimensions: 3'10" x 15'3" (117 cm x 465 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Bidjar runner, woven in Persia circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its richly detailed all-over Herati-style pattern and deep, saturated palette. The elongated field in rust-red is framed by a dark navy border, with finely drawn floral and geometric motifs that showcase the precise hand-knotted craftsmanship collectors prize in early 20th-century Bidjar rugs. Its narrow proportions and strong visual rhythm make it an ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or long corridor.
Muted warm tones of rust, navy, indigo, ivory, camel, burgundy, and slate, with a rust field.

Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
