This vintage Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian piece distinguished by its luminous all-over lattice of stylized botanical motifs and a beautifully aged palette. The hand-knotted design pairs a soft beige field with sky blue borders and ivory accents, giving the rug an airy, refined presence with the character collectors prize in vintage village weaving. Its balanced patterning and gentle patina make it an ideal choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of beige, sky blue, ivory, tan, and camel, with a beige field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
