This vintage Khotan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its elegant East Turkestan design vocabulary and refined all-over lattice of floral motifs. The deep brown field is framed by warm rust and camel borders with crisp geometric guard elements, giving the composition both structure and decorative richness. Its hand-knotted character and softly aged palette make it a versatile accent for a hallway, bedroom, or office.

Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
