This antique Shiraz rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian tribal runner distinguished by its striking lattice of hooked lozenges and finely drawn geometric motifs. The softly aged palette of rust, sky blue, ivory, and brown gives the hand-knotted design exceptional character, while the detailed border work and visible wear lend the piece an authentic collector's presence. Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs.
