This antique Northwest Persian runner, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a finely articulated tribal-geometric design that reads beautifully down its long format. Its hand-knotted field is filled with repeating angular motifs and framed by multiple detailed borders in softly aged rust, ivory, taupe, and slate tones, giving it the nuanced character collectors prize in early Persian rugs. A striking decorative accent with strong linear presence, it is especially well-suited for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.

Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
