Circa: 1930.
This antique Belouch rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a softly faded palette and finely drawn geometric ornament. Its ivory and taupe field is framed by a subtle border and anchored by stacked diamond medallions, giving the piece a quiet, textural presence that suits both collected and minimalist interiors. An ideal accent for an entryway, hallway, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, taupe, beige, and camel, with a ivory field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
