Antique Malayer Area Rug (4' x 5')
Dimensions: 4'1" x 5'4" (124 cm x 163 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique Persian Malayer rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its angular medallion-like lattice and softly faded palette. The geometric drawing, layered border system, and finely articulated motifs give it the character collectors seek in early 20th-century village weaving, while its subdued blue and beige tones make it especially versatile in interiors. A refined accent for a bedroom, office, or entryway.
Faded neutral tones of beige, slate, ivory, taupe, charcoal, and camel, with a beige field.

Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
