This vintage Saraband runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian rug with an elegant all-over lattice of small repeating motifs set against a richly aged red field. Its narrow format, soft faded palette, and finely drawn border give it the refined character collectors seek in hand-knotted village weaving, while the timeworn surface adds warmth and authenticity. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded warm tones of rust, taupe, ivory, brown, rose, and sage, with a rust field.
Saraband rugs are woven in the Saraband district of Arak province in west-central Iran, and are perhaps best known for the "mir" or boteh field pattern — rows of small paisley-like teardrop forms — that has become one of the most widely recognized motifs in Oriental rug design. The boteh may represent a bent cypress tree, a flame, or a stylized leaf; its exact origin is debated.
Classic Saraband rugs feature this all-over boteh field on a rich red ground with a distinctive border composition. They are woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot and a medium pile. Their warm, rhythmic pattern and versatile palette have made them enduringly popular in traditional and transitional interiors.
