This antique circa 1900 Ghordes rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Anatolian village weaving with a beautifully time-softened palette and striking architectural composition. Its hand-knotted design features a prayer-format field framed by bold angular floral borders in faded crimson, ivory, and soft olive, giving the piece exceptional character and collector appeal. Ghiordes (also Gördes) is a town in western Turkey with one of the oldest and most distinguished rug-weaving traditions in Anatolia. Ghiordes is the origin of the Turkish (symmetrical) knot — the so-called "Ghiordes knot" — which is now used across Turkey and much of the Caucasus.

Antique Ghiordes rugs are best known for their prayer format: a graceful arch or "mihrab" supported by slender columns, with a lamp motif suspended in the niche, rendered in a soft palette of rose, ivory, and pale green. Their refined drawing and historical importance make them among the most sought-after of all antique Turkish rugs.
