This handmade, one-of-a-kind vintage Malayer rug showcases the refined Persian village tradition with a richly drawn floral design and a softly timeworn palette. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through an elegant border, layered medallion composition, and beautifully faded tones of burgundy, taupe, and ivory that give the piece depth and collector appeal. An ideal accent for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, burgundy, ivory, brown, rose, and charcoal, with a taupe field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
