This antique Persian Mir rug, circa 1930, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over Herati pattern and softly time-muted palette. A warm camel field carries dense repeating geometric floral forms, framed by an ivory border with delicate angular ornament, creating an elegant, quietly textured surface. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded warm tones of camel, ivory, muted rose, taupe, sienna, and charcoal, with a camel field.
Mir rugs are woven in the Saraband district of west-central Iran, and their name is virtually synonymous with the "mir" pattern — a repeating field of small, curved boteh (teardrop or paisley) motifs arranged in offset diagonal rows on a rich red ground. This endlessly adaptable all-over design, which may derive from a stylized leaf or flame form, became one of the most widely imitated in the history of rug weaving.
Antique Mir-Saraband rugs are finely woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot. Their warm palette, precise drawing, and quietly rhythmic pattern make them enduringly versatile in traditional and transitional interiors.
