Antique Belouch Area Rug (2' x 5')
Dimensions: 2'10" x 5'5" (86 cm x 165 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Belouch rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal runner distinguished by its elongated field and finely drawn geometric motifs. The rust-toned border and ivory-centered field create a striking contrast, showcasing the crisp, hand-knotted patterning and time-softened palette prized by collectors of Baluch weaving. Its narrow proportions and graphic presence make it especially well-suited for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded warm tones of rust, ivory, brown, camel, and charcoal, with a ivory field.

Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
