This antique circa 1930 Bidjar rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over field and softly integrated central medallion. Its faded palette of blush, ivory, and deep blue gives the hand-knotted design an elegant timeworn character, while the layered floral detailing and substantial border showcase the precise craftsmanship prized in Bidjar weaving. An ideal accent for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded warm tones of blush, ivory, navy, dusty rose, slate blue, and coral, with a blush field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
