This vintage Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian village weaving distinguished by its rare all-over lattice of boteh motifs and softly timeworn palette. The ivory field is framed by multiple geometric borders in muted navy, camel, taupe, and blush, giving the piece a refined tribal character and excellent decorative versatility. Its intricate hand-knotted patterning and gently faded surface make it an ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining room, or bedroom.

Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.

Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
