Handmade and one-of-a-kind, this antique Gabbeh rug from the early 1900s showcases a striking tribal composition with four linked geometric medallions set across an ivory field. The warm camel border, stepped outlines, and small bird motifs give the piece a graphic, folk-art character that highlights the artistry of hand-knotted village weaving. Its restrained palette and spacious design make it an ideal accent for a bedroom, office, or entryway.
Faded warm tones of ivory, camel, taupe, and brown, with a ivory field.
Gabbe (also Gabbeh) rugs are woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal women in the Zagros Mountains of southern Iran, primarily by the Qashqai and Luri tribes. The word "gabbeh" means "raw" or "unfinished" in Persian, reflecting the bold, improvisational aesthetic of these textiles — thick-piled, loosely knotted, and filled with naive figurative imagery: animals, people, trees, and abstract forms drawn directly from the weaver's imagination and daily life.
Their thick, soft pile, earthy natural dyes, and utterly original imagery have made Gabbeh rugs enormously popular since they were "discovered" by the Western market in the 1980s. They bring immediate warmth and personality to any interior.
