Dimensions: 3'5" x 6'2" (104 cm x 188 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This handmade, one-of-a-kind antique Afghan rug from circa 1930 showcases a classic tribal runner format with a column of geometric guls framed by multiple patterned borders. Its softly faded camel and ivory palette, hand-knotted character, and finely drawn all-over tribal detailing give it an understated collector appeal that works beautifully in layered interiors. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or bedroom.
Faded warm tones of camel, ivory, taupe, beige, and sand, with a camel field.
Although Afghanistan shares its western border with Iran, its rugs share no similarities. It is intersected by Baluch, Uzbec and Turkmen weavers and so have a Central Asian influence. The weavers are tribal and nomadic and often use the “Gul” or elephants foot design. They come in deep madders and rusts with black outlining. They sometimes use greens, yellows and blue in the accent colors.
