This antique Karabagh rug, circa 1910, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Caucasian weaving with a softly faded ivory field and striking geometric tribal motifs. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through a bold central medallion, angular corner elements, and a finely drawn border in rose, brown, and muted gold tones that give the piece exceptional decorative presence. A distinctive accent for an entryway, hallway, or office.
Faded warm tones of ivory, rose, brown, taupe, camel, gold, charcoal, and sage, with a ivory field.
Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
