This antique Afshar rug, hand-knotted circa 1920, is a one-of-a-kind Persian tribal weaving distinguished by an elegant ivory field filled with stylized floral and vase motifs in luminous blues, soft rose, and warm earth tones. Its layered border system and finely drawn all-over pattern showcase the character and craftsmanship collectors prize in early 20th-century village rugs, with a beautifully aged palette that adds depth without overwhelming a room. An ideal accent for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded warm tones of ivory, rust, gold, cobalt, taupe, rose, camel, and olive, with a ivory field.
Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
