How an overdyed rug is made

Antique overdyed pieces are eighty years and older, and most went into the dye bath with real wear already on them, so the pattern underneath comes back as a soft outline and the color sits deep and uneven. Picking the color and the width

Most of what is in stock sits at the quiet end of the range. The faded pieces were overdyed in ivory, gold, or taupe and then worn further, so from a few paces they read as texture rather than pattern, which is what lets them sit under a patterned sofa without arguing with it. These work in contemporary rooms because they carry age without carrying a period.
