This handmade one-of-a-kind antique Bibikabad rug, woven in Persia circa 1940, showcases a refined traditional design with a softly drawn central medallion, floral vinery, and an elegant framed border. Its pale ivory field is accented by faded sky blue, taupe, and soft beige tones that give the composition an airy, timeworn character prized by collectors, while the hand-knotted patterning creates a graceful balance of detail and symmetry. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or dining room.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, sky blue, taupe, beige, sand, and light gray, with a ivory field.
Bibikabad rugs are woven in a village in the Hamadan district of northwest Iran. They share many characteristics with other Hamadan-area rugs — single-wefted construction, cotton foundation, geometric designs — but are distinguished by their bold, spacious compositions and their unusually strong palette. Large-scale herati and medallion patterns are common, rendered with a directness that gives these village rugs considerable decorative presence.
Their robust construction and vibrant color make them excellent working rugs for high-traffic spaces, while their graphic quality appeals to collectors and designers looking for character-filled antique pieces.
