This antique circa 1900 Bidjar runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian rug with an elegant all-over floral design and a refined ivory border. Its densely drawn field in softly faded rose, slate blue, and warm earth tones showcases intricate hand-knotted craftsmanship and the enduring decorative character prized in antique Bidjar weavings. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or long gallery space.
Faded warm tones of rose, ivory, slate blue, taupe, rust, camel, and brown, with a rose field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
