This antique Sparta rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a beautifully time-softened palette and an elegant all-over floral design. Its faded terracotta field and blue-gray border create a refined, airy presence, while the intricate patterning and worn patina give it the character collectors prize in early 20th-century decorative rugs. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or dining area.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, dusty rose, slate, ivory, terra cotta, and blue gray, with a taupe field.
Sparta rugs are woven in the town of Isparta in south west Turkey. They produce rugs that are curvilinear in design with scrolling arabesques, leaves and flowers, usually in a softer palette and more often with central medallions and open fields but also use all over patterns. They are woven on a cotton foundation with an all wool pile.
