This vintage Belouch rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving distinguished by its ivory field, stepped camel-hair style niche, and richly drawn geometric motifs. The hand-knotted design pairs deep navy and rust borders with angular floral and latch-hook elements, creating the bold graphic character collectors prize in Baluch and Belouch rugs. Its narrow 2' x 4' format makes it an ideal accent for an entryway, hallway, or beside a bed.
Muted warm tones of ivory, rust, navy, camel, brown, and terracotta, with a ivory field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
