This handmade, one-of-a-kind antique Hooked rug from the 1940s presents a refined floral design in a softly faded palette, with an ivory field and delicately rendered taupe and beige botanical motifs. Its spacious composition, framed border, and central floral bouquet create an elegant traditional decorative effect that complements both period and understated interiors. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or dining room.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, beige, taupe, cream, and sand, with a ivory field.
Hooked rugs are a North American and British folk art tradition in which yarn or strips of fabric are pulled through a backing material — typically burlap or canvas — using a hooked tool. The tradition flourished in rural New England and Atlantic Canada from the mid-nineteenth century onward, producing an extraordinary range of designs: florals, animals, landscapes, geometric patterns, and narrative scenes drawn from daily life.
Antique hooked rugs are increasingly collected as genuine folk art objects. Their hand-drawn quality, improvised color, and intimate scale give them a warmth and personality quite unlike any commercially produced textile. They are particularly effective in farmhouse, cottage, and eclectic interiors.
