This handmade one-of-a-kind antique Karabagh runner, woven circa 1930 in the Caucasus, showcases a striking sequence of geometric medallions set along a richly colored field. Deep indigo borders, rose and aubergine tones, and crisp tribal drawing give the rug strong visual rhythm and collector appeal, with finely articulated motifs that highlight its hand-knotted craftsmanship. An ideal statement piece for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Muted warm tones of indigo, rose, aubergine, sky blue, rust, ivory, terra cotta, and brown, with a aubergine field.
Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
