This vintage Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian runner with a beautifully faded palette and a striking all-over geometric floral design. The hand-knotted field pairs soft sky blue with ivory for an airy, timeworn look, while the detailed border and elongated composition showcase the refined village craftsmanship collectors prize. Its light coloration and elegant pattern make it an ideal accent for a hallway, bedroom, or entryway.
Faded cool tones of ivory, sky blue, powder blue, and ice blue, with a ivory field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
