This vintage Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by a lattice of diamond compartments filled with crisp geometric star motifs. Its ivory field, soft taupe-brown framework, and vivid blue accents create a refined tribal-meets-traditional composition, while the detailed border and hand-knotted character give it strong decorative presence. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Muted neutral tones of ivory, taupe, brown, sky blue, camel, and slate, with a ivory field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
