Joshaghan (also Joshegan) is a village in Isfahan province, central Iran, credited with originating the famous "Joshaghan" all-over repeat pattern — a bold diamond lattice enclosing stylized flowers — which became one of the most widely imitated designs in Persian carpet weaving. The pattern is believed to date to at least the seventeenth century.
Rugs woven in Joshaghan use a cotton foundation, asymmetric knotting, and a strong palette of deep red and indigo. They are woven with a medium pile and are prized both for their historical significance and for their handsome, enduring design.
