This antique circa 1940 Mir rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its refined all-over boteh pattern and softly aged palette. Hand-knotted with a delicate, collector-friendly drawing, it features an ivory field framed by multiple geometric guard borders in pale blue, taupe, and sand, giving it an elegant, understated presence. Its quiet sophistication makes it an ideal choice for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, pale blue, taupe, sand, and gray, with a ivory field.
Mir rugs are woven in the Saraband district of west-central Iran, and their name is virtually synonymous with the "mir" pattern — a repeating field of small, curved boteh (teardrop or paisley) motifs arranged in offset diagonal rows on a rich red ground. This endlessly adaptable all-over design, which may derive from a stylized leaf or flame form, became one of the most widely imitated in the history of rug weaving.
Antique Mir-Saraband rugs are finely woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot. Their warm palette, precise drawing, and quietly rhythmic pattern make them enduringly versatile in traditional and transitional interiors.
