This antique Bibikabad rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian carpet distinguished by its finely drawn all-over Herati field and elongated central medallion. The richly patterned composition pairs a warm rust-brown ground with ivory borders and deep navy accents, showcasing the crisp geometry and decorative precision that make Bibikabad weavings so sought after by collectors. Its balanced scale and intricate border work make it an ideal foundation for a living room, dining room, or office.
Muted warm tones of rust, navy, ivory, camel, terra cotta, slate, and brown, with a rust field.
Bibikabad rugs are woven in a village in the Hamadan district of northwest Iran. They share many characteristics with other Hamadan-area rugs — single-wefted construction, cotton foundation, geometric designs — but are distinguished by their bold, spacious compositions and their unusually strong palette. Large-scale herati and medallion patterns are common, rendered with a directness that gives these village rugs considerable decorative presence.
Their robust construction and vibrant color make them excellent working rugs for high-traffic spaces, while their graphic quality appeals to collectors and designers looking for character-filled antique pieces.
