This antique Beshir rug, circa 1900, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a richly patterned lattice of large geometric guls set across a deep red field. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through crisp angular drawing, saturated madder and indigo tones, and a finely detailed border that gives the long format strong visual rhythm and collector appeal. An ideal statement piece for a hallway, living room, or office.
Muted warm tones of rust, navy, burgundy, ivory, terra cotta, slate, and camel, with a rust field.
Beshir rugs are produced by Uzbek and Turkmen weavers along the Amu Darya River in Central Asia. Unlike the more austere red-ground Turkmen work, Beshir rugs are notable for their relative complexity and variety — incorporating blue and gold grounds, lattice field patterns, pomegranate motifs, and Chinese-influenced cloud bands that reflect the cultural crossroads of the Silk Road.
They are woven on a wool foundation with a medium pile and tend toward a more curvilinear drawing than other Turkmen work. Antique Beshir pieces are prized by collectors for their unusual color combinations and their distinctive fusion of Central Asian and Persian design vocabulary.
