This handmade, one-of-a-kind vintage Bidjar rug showcases the refined Persian weaving tradition with an intricate all-over floral design and a beautifully aged palette. Its densely drawn pattern, framed border, and softly faded tones create a sophisticated decorative presence, with finely articulated botanical motifs that reward close viewing. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining room, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, brown, slate, sage, and rust, with a slate field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
